Superyacht Eco Association

SEA Index ®

Under the aegis of the ‘Monaco Capital of Advanced Yachting’ initiative, led by the Yacht Club de Monaco, the Superyacht Eco Association is a non-profit organisation, founded by the Yacht Club de Monaco and Credit Suisse.

The scope of the Superyacht Eco Association (SEA) Index, is to increase the yachting industry’s awareness of its carbon impact on the environment and strengthen the commitment of the Principality of Monaco as a center of excellence, innovation and environmental leadership in yachting.

The SEA Index strives to mobilise all industry stakeholders, private and corporate, in Monaco and internationally, towards less superyacht carbon emissions. Our initiative is a response to strong demand from forward thinking superyacht owners, keen to assess their impact and support the industry as it evolves towards a less impactful future.

An increasing number of superyacht owners are already adopting better sustainable practices as a matter of personal choice and are aiming for the highest standards. They are the ones driving change by soliciting shipyards and financing the research and development associated with their projects.

The SEA Index® certification application process is available to all Yacht Club de Monaco owner-members.

“The next decade will be a decisive one for the future of our planet. Climate change is one of our biggest challenges.”

Our Vision

Our vision is that the SEA Index tool will become the superyacht energy-intensity standard.
By providing transparency, the SEA Index allows stakeholders to easily assess and compare a yacht’s carbon impact.

In turn, this will enable the industry to generate new products based on their carbon rating and create incentives for builders and owners to design yachts with lower fuel consumption and less environmental impact.

Our Mission

Our mission is to suppport superyacht owners towards less energy-intensive yachting, to be an aggregator of tangible solutions, bringing together shipyards, innovators and operators. We aim to support key industry players towards change, defining objectives to reduce emissions. The SEA Index is a voluntary tool and the Superyacht Eco Association aims to create a true ecosystem of stakeholders, providing impartial information and helping to implement new solutions.

The long-term goal of the SEA Index is to become the world’s leading energy- intensity rating system for superyachts, with a view to be extended to other sectors, leading to a multifaceted sustainability index.
